AmWest Observations

Quick trip back to California this weekend on America West. First =
flight on
HP mainline ever, if memory serves. A320 for every segment.

Some observations:
=20
1. In four flights (BOS-LAS-LAX and SNA-PHX-BOS), I don't think there =
was a
single empty seat.
=20
2. A little surprising to have nothing but snack service on 5 hour =
flights
to/from BOS.
=20
3. HP's older A320's are starting to look pretty tired. BOS-LAS was a
new(er) plane, but the others were significantly older and it showed.
SNA-PHX was N624AW and I'm not sure this plane has undergone an interior
refresh since it rolled off the line in 1989.
=20
4. $5 is a bit outrageous for headsets. Anybody have numbers on revenue
from those sales, especially as they compare to UA, who provides =
headsets
for free? Seems like the extra revenue can't be that much.
=20
5. HP makes their "customer friendly" ticketing policies a big part of =
their
intra-travel marketing. Everything talks about the no Saturday stay, =
free
same-day standby, etc. Good stuff from Doug Parker.
=20
Overall, no major complaints. Given a choice, I'd still go UA, but =
AmWest
certainly seems to be doing things right (and heading in the right
direction).
