A C130 Hercules transport plane crashed in Beni Mered, near the Boufarik military airport, 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of the capital. Among the dead were four crew members, the report said, citing unnamed official sources. Police and rescuers rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured to regional hospitals for treatment. In March, an Air Algerie passenger jet crashed and killed 102 people in the Sahara Desert. The crash was state-run Air Algerie's first since its founding in 1953, and the lack of experience in coping with airline accidents hampered rescue efforts. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/international/AP-Algeria-Plane-Crash.html?ex=1057979383&ei=1&en=198f506aa55c9e28 --------------------------------- Get Home Delivery of The New York Times Newspaper.
