Passenger traffic down for Midwest in May MILWAUKEE (AP) =97 Midwest Airlines said that passenger traffic decreased=20 nearly 17 percent in May compared with the same month last year amid rising= =20 fuel prices. The Oak Creek airline said Wednesday that its passenger=20 traffic was down 16.8 percent in May compared with May 2002. Revenue yield= =20 declined 11 percent, and revenue per available seat mile was down nearly 6= =20 percent. Fuel prices were 14 percent higher in May than a year earlier and= =20 were 38 percent higher in the first five months of 2003 compared with the=20 same period in 2002. Midwest had earlier announced that it plans to reduce= =20 its flight capacity about 17 percent in the second quarter compared with=20 the second quarter of 2002. Regional carrier Midwest Connect saw passenger= =20 traffic increase 8.3 percent in May. Traffic on Midwest Connect was up=20 nearly 15 percent for the year. The carrier expects capacity to remain=20 unchanged in the second quarter.
