Lafayette Airport gets $1 million grant LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) =97 About $4.1 million in improvements will be made to= =20 Lafayette Regional Airport's air cargo capabilities and Continental Express= =20 will resume jet service between Lafayette and Houston, airport officials=20 said. A package of funds will be used to pay for improvements that will=20 allow the airport to move more cargo and service heavier aircraft, said=20 Director of Aviation Greg Roberts. A $1 million grant from the U.S.=20 Economic Development Authority announced last week will supplement other=20 contributions, including $1.8 million from the Federal Aviation=20 Administration; $400,000 from the Louisiana Department of Economic=20 Development; $200,000 from the state's Department of Transportation and=20 Development; and additional funds from local government. Continental's=20 decision to resume service between Lafayette and Houston in mid-June will=20 be a cargo-related boon for the airport, Roberts said. "The 737 has more=20 available seating and has a greater cargo capacity than other jets,"=20 Roberts said. "That's important for passenger groups, such as tour groups=20 or school groups, who prefer to travel together in one airplane."=20 Restaurants and other businesses that need to move large amounts of seafood= =20 and other cargo quickly and easily will find the service valuable, Roberts= =20 said. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.natalielaughlin.com/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
