BWIA's Brenda moves up By Curtis Rampersad Express 06.040.03 BWIA's vice president of procurement and material administration Brenda Billy is now in charge of the national airline's day-to-day operations. Billy is at the helm of the cash-strapped carrier in the interim, following the resignation of chief executive officer and president Conrad Aleong. She is a longtime BWIA executive and was one of the first to announce the airline's fleet reduction plans last year. Reports indicated that Billy would be appointed chief financial officer within days, possibly making way for Tobago Express general manager Nelson Tom Yew to take over as BWIA chief executive officer. Tom Yew has more than 41 years' experience in the aviation industry and has spent more than three decades at BWIA. Industry sources said the BWIA board of directors discussed the appointment with Tom Yew. Contacted yesterday, Tom Yew declined comment. But, he said, he might be in a better position to comment by tomorrow. Corporate communications director Clint Williams yesterday confirmed that Billy was in charge of day-to-day operations at the airline, pending appointment of a new CEO, possibly by the end of the week. Aleong returned as CEO of BWIA in 1998 after leaving in 1995, not long after BWIA had been privatised. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.natalielaughlin.com/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
