Aeromexico flight attendants postpone strike MEXICO CITY (Reuters) =97 Flight attendants at Aeromexico, Mexico's largest= =20 airline, Sunday extended a threatened strike deadline to December in a=20 last-minute move aimed at helping the financially troubled carrier. The=20 flight attendants' union, which seeks a 15-percent salary hike, called off= =20 the strike just as it was set to begin at midnight Saturday. "It is a done= =20 deal that there will be a postponement," said a spokesman from the Mexican= =20 Labor Ministry mediating the talks between the airline and the flight=20 attendants. Aeromexico's flight attendants union, ASSA, said it extended=20 the deadline because of the airline's financial problems. "Activities at=20 the company will continue as normal," said Arturo Aragon, ASSA's secretary= =20 general. "We don't want the company to be severely affected (by a strike)=20 given the difficult situation that is affecting the industry on a global=20 level." It was unclear why the union set December as the new deadline for=20 the strike. The company has reached agreements to freeze its pilots' and=20 ground crews' wages this year. Like its counterparts around the world,=20 Aeromexico has suffered from a business slowdown since the Sept. 11, 2001,= =20 hijacked airliner attacks in the United States. The company, owned by=20 Mexico's state-controlled Grupo Cintra, recently announced it will cut 400= =20 jobs this year from a work force of 6,500 people and ground four of its 70= =20 planes.
