Northwest wants you to be at the airport earlier BY MARTIN J. MOYLAN Pioneer Press Most Northwest Airlines customers used to checking in for a flight at the=20 last minute will soon have to get to the airport 15 or 30 minutes earlier.= =20 Starting June 17, Eagan-based Northwest is increasing its minimum check-in= =20 times for most domestic flights, according to Newswire, the airline's=20 in-house daily news report for employees. The changes are nationwide and =97= =20 as always =97 there are consequences if you're late: Tardy passengers may=20 have their seat assignments and reservations canceled. The airline=20 indicated it's making the shifts to compensate for the time passengers and= =20 their bags take to clear federal government security checks. Northwest also= =20 says that the changes will allow it to better coordinate service with=20 airline partners, such as KLM and Continental. Passengers traveling on=20 flights within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, will be=20 required to check in 30 minutes before a flight leaves and be aboard the=20 aircraft 15 minutes before departure, according to Newswire. Passengers=20 flying out of Denver, Las Vegas and Atlanta must check in 45 minutes before= =20 departure. Currently, Northwest requires that most domestic passengers=20 check in and receive a boarding pass from a Northwest agent at least 15=20 minutes prior to departure, according to the airline's Web site. Passengers= =20 flying to Hawaii already have had to be on board 30 minutes prior to=20 departure, the Web site says.
