Midwest to unveil details of low-fare service MILWAUKEE (AP) =97 Midwest Airlines, known for catering to business=20 travelers, is launching a low-fare service this summer to popular vacation= =20 destinations. The new service is meant to complement the airline's premium= =20 flagship brand, not replace it, said Carol Skornicka, Midwest senior vice=20 president. "It's clear that the marketplace is changing and that the=20 segment of the market that is very cost-conscious is growing faster than=20 the business-oriented segment," Skornicka said. The service will start=20 after Aug. 1 on five McDonnell Douglas MD80 jets. The company planned to=20 release the name and routes of the new service Wednesday. Oak Creek-based=20 Midwest already provides nonstop jet service to major destinations=20 throughout the United States. Like most other airlines, the company has=20 struggled recently. Parent company Midwest Express Holdings Inc. reported a= =20 net loss of $10.5 million for 2002 as operating revenues for its airlines=20 lagged behind 2001. The company said in April it had begun a plan to cut=20 costs by shifting to a buy-onboard meal plan for its flights, reducing its= =20 work force by 13 percent, reducing compensation for its remaining workers=20 and reaching an agreement on wage concessions with the pilots union. The=20 pilots accepted wage cuts of 9 percent and 5.75 percent for captains and=20 first officers, respectively, from April 16 through Nov. 1. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Mas Site: www.tntisland.com/tntrecords/mas2003/ Site of the Week: http://www.caribbeanfloral.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
