In the first place, if I had it my way, there would be no hubs. WN does great without hubs. But if an airline is going to have a hub, then I really don't think the O&D traffic is as important as the connecting traffic. A consumer living in a hub city is really screwed. Fares tend to be higher than other comparable flights. ABQ would be a better hub than MSY. Counting only domestic traffic, MSY the only practical traffic would be between the western states, the southwest, and southeast. ABQ, on the other hand, would have better traffic possibilities. A person would not be going as far out of the way for flights between the west/southwest and the Midwest/southeastern states as he would using MSY for a connection.
