Denver airport traffic down 1.6% in March

DENVER (AP) =97 More than 3.09 million passengers passed through Denver=20
International Airport in March, down 1.6% from the same month last year.=20
Airport officials said Thursday that despite the March blizzard that closed=
=20
the airport for 32 hours, 8.58 million passengers used the airport during=20
the first three months, an increase of 5.6% over last year. United Airlines=
=20
was the largest carrier with more than 1.59 million passengers at DIA in=20
March, down 5.4%. During the first thee months of the year, United had=20
carried almost 4.79 million travelers through DIA, an increase of 1.3%. The=
=20
three-month total for 2002 was about 4.42 million. Frontier Airlines=20
carried 377,448 people in March, a 10.1% increase from March 2002. The=20
Denver-based airline had more than a million passengers during the first=20
three months of 2003. Airport officials blame the sluggish economy for the=
=20
15.2% decrease in cargo handled during March.
