BA planes get flight deck doors Tobago News 05.03.03 All operational aircraft in British Airways' long haul fleet including those servicing its London/Crown Point route have now been fitted with Phase II reinforced flight deck doors as it met with the US Federal Aviation Authority's deadline a month ago. The industry standard doors, which meet all airworthiness requirements, have been fitted to 100 BA Boeing 747, 777 and 767 and Concorde aircraft. The airline operates the Boeing 777 jetliner on the Tobago route on Wednesday and Saturday. A statement from the airline noted that its long haul fleet now conformed to FAA regulations which from April 9, banned foreign carriers from operating passenger or cargo aircraft within the US, unless their flight deck doors met the intrusion and ballistic-resistant requirements. Commenting on the development, BA District Manager, Trinidad and Tobago said: "The new doors are just part of the increased safety measures that BA has implemented since September 11, to ensure that security remains paramount in the air and on the ground." The new reinforced doors are designed to prevent unauthorised access to the flight deck. In addition, to boost security BA is installing a CCTV system to monitor the area outside the flight deck thus greatly enhancing security for the airline's passengers and crew. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.cso.gov.tt TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
