In a test that started yesterday, the airline said, economy-class passengers on Denver-Seattle routes were offered breakfast for $7 and lunch and dinner for $10. The for-sale meals are being tested this week on seven daily flights in each direction on those routes, United said. In the last few months, airlines have been testing the idea of selling food on flights where meal service had been eliminated to cut costs. As such, airlines would compete with airport restaurants. "Rather than purchasing food on the run in the airport, customers will have the opportunity to purchase restaurant-quality meals from the comfort of their seats," Bill Dove, United's director of worldwide catering, said in a statement yesterday. Pacific Travel Reported Down 35 Pacific travel was down more than 35 percent in the second week of April, the Air Transport Association said, because of concern over severe acute respiratory syndrome. The Business Travel Coalition says that two-thirds of corporate travel managers believe that airlines have been either "only somewhat helpful" or "dismissive of the issue."
