American Airlines said on Friday it would drop contested compensation plans for its top executives a day after a union threatened, out of anger at the deals, not to sign a concession pact aimed at keeping the world's largest carrier out of bankruptcy. American, a division of AMR Corp. said it has voluntary canceled retention plans put in place more than a year ago to keep its key executives. The plans included bonuses for top executives who stayed with the company and funding for a special pension trust that would be paid to the airline's top 45 executives, even if the carrier went bankrupt. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
