Midwest Airlines reports $11.8 million quarterly loss CHICAGO (Reuters) =97 Midwest Express Holdings Inc. Thursday said it swung= to=20 a quarterly loss because of declining demand and rising fuel costs due to=20 the war Iraq that hurt already weak results for the business-oriented air=20 carrier. Midwest Express, parent of Midwest Airlines and Skyway Airlines,=20 said the loss amounted $11.8 million, or 76 cents per share, compared with= =20 net income of $3.8 million, or 28 cents per share, a year earlier.=20 Operating revenue fell 9.6% to $94.1 million in the quarter from a year=20 earlier for Midwest Express, a Milwaukee based air carrier that has catered= =20 to business travelers in the past and is attempting a broad cost-cutting=20 plan. In the previously announced plan, Midwest Express aims to save more=20 than $4 million per month through capacity cuts, furloughs, paycuts for=20 remaining workers, attempts to lower airplane lease costs and start some=20 low-fare business.
