BWIA submits revised plan to Govt By Curtis Rampersad Express 04.09.03 National carrier BWIA yesterday submitted its revamped cost-cutting plan to= =20 the Government in the hope of getting much-needed financial aid. The plan=20 includes possible pay cuts of between five per cent and 15 per cent and a=20 possible reduction in flights. Another aspect of the plan might involve=20 looking at reducing the number of pilots and flight attendants if BWIA=20 returned leased aircraft, a source said. Minister in the Ministry of=20 Finance, Kenneth Valley, confirmed that the Government received the plan=20 and said a team, led by him, has started analysing it. The team will review= =20 BWIA=92s plan to save money and make a submission to Cabinet tomorrow,= Valley=20 told the Express yesterday. He said the Government never said it would not= =20 help cash-strapped BWIA. The airline lost $182.1 million last year and has= =20 been losing hundreds of thousands of dollars a week within recent=20 times. Chief executive officer Conrad Aleong was reported as saying that=20 the airline required an immediate cash injection or might not make it=20 beyond April 15. Valley said help for BWIA was based on two conditions=97the= =20 first being that the airline=92s management submit a viable plan to keep= BWIA=20 operating. BWIA=92s other major stakeholders should also look at helping the= =20 airline or the government should be given equity for its assistance. =93Thos= e=20 conditions remain,=94 Valley said. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@xxxxxxxxx Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.carstt.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
