Delta tries to boost slumping traffic with fare sale ATLANTA (AP) =97 Delta Air Lines announced a spring and summer fare sale=20 Monday with one-way tickets priced as low as $44 from the nation's=20 heartland to Florida. Delta, facing hundreds of millions of dollars in=20 losses because of terrorism and the war on Iraq, said the fares would be=20 available until April 16 for travel until October in more than 250 markets,= =20 including the carrier's Atlanta hub. Other one-way tickets include $87=20 between Atlanta and Boston or New York's LaGuardia Airport and $72 between= =20 Atlanta and Chicago, and $44 from Wichita, Kan., to Fort Walton Beach, Fla.= =20 "We're offering some great deals just in time for spring and summer=20 vacation travel," Delta vice president Harlan Bennett said. "Customers can= =20 choose from more than 40 destinations throughout Florida, the South and the= =20 Northeast." The fares are valid for travel Monday through Thursday and on=20 Saturday April 14 through Oct. 1, except for select Florida cities where=20 day-of- week validity varies for travel prior to April 29. Tickets require a seven-day advance purchase and must be purchased by April= =20 16, the airline said. A round trip is not required, but some blackout dates= =20 apply. Delta, which lost $1.3 in 2002, expects to lose even more this year.= =20 Last month, the airline told shareholders it expected a first-quarter loss= =20 of about $400 million, more than $3 a share.
