Which brings up another point. That $200k salary cited, is the top of the heap. For every $200k pilot, there are hundreds earning their way through the ranks flying freight dogs, beat-up Beavers, etc, for starvation wages. Even entry-level pilot positions at the majors are not get-rich-quick schemes. I bet that 747 skipper spent many an hour flying ridiculous schedules in the right seat of a 737, or if he's old enough (actually he probably is) also flying sideways on a Classic, DC10 or 727. And not at a grand wage either. Surely someone who's ground his way up through those ranks has earned the right to a decent living. My wife is a GP. She earns way less than a specialist. That's the way the market works, a balance of supply and demand.
