US Airways exits Chapter 11 bankruptcy NEW YORK (Reuters) =97 US Airways, the No. 7 U.S. carrier, on Monday exited= =20 bankruptcy as a leaner, more efficient, but still money-losing carrier with= =20 a greater focus on regional jets. US Airways, based in Arlington, Va.,=20 emerged from Chapter 11 after fewer than eight months. It now has 36% fewer= =20 employees, 30% fewer available seats and 25% fewer flights than it did=20 before the Sept. 11 attacks, and has cut its annual costs by $1.9 billion.= =20 Its debt load is down to about $8 billion from $10.65 billion. "I'm excited= =20 and enthusiastic given the significant progress we have made," Chief=20 Executive David Siegel said in an interview. "My enthusiasm is tempered by= =20 the fact we are emerging in the most challenging of industry times, and the= =20 restructuring is not done." The carrier will receive $240 million from the= =20 Retirement Systems of Alabama, which will take a 37% ownership stake in=20 return. On Monday it got a $900 million federal loan guarantee, which will= =20 back $1 billion of private financing.
