The frequent flyer partnership (which applies only to domestic service)
was the only part of a broader alliance/code share agreement the two
carriers attempted.  Hate to say it, but I've earned more SkyMiles
flying United than flying Delta in the past few years (most of my
recent DL flying was on a companion certificate which earns me no
miles).
