American union sees vote on concessions by month end DALLAS (Reuters) =97 The union representing pilots at American Airlines said= =20 Tuesday its board will likely vote by the end of this month on a=20 wage-concession deal the union is hammering out with management at the=20 struggling carrier. "We expect that our board will likely vote on a=20 proposed package of changes to the collective bargaining agreement by the=20 end of this month," said Gregg Overman, a spokesman for the Allied Pilots=20 Association. The union represents some 13,500 pilots at American, a=20 division of AMR. The union's board of directors has been meeting for=20 several days in the Dallas. The union has said it was working to strike a=20 deal that will help the airline avoid bankruptcy and its rank and file will= =20 have final say on any deal. Overman said the war in Iraq has added more financial pain to the company = =97=20 which lost an airline industry record $3.5 billion last year =97 because of= =20 decreased demand for air travel. AMR has said it needs to cut structural=20 costs by about $4 billion a year to keep flying.
