United Airlines opening job offices for ex-employees ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (AP) =97 United Airlines is opening job placement=20 centers at its Chicago-area headquarters and San Francisco International=20 Airport this month to help its former employees locate work. Other=20 locations may be added later, the company said Thursday. United is teaming= =20 with Switzerland-based Adecco, the world's largest employment agency, to=20 open a United-Adecco Job Center at the airline's headquarters on March 17=20 and another at San Francisco on March 31. They will offer skill=20 evaluations, interviews with consultants and computer-based training.=20 Former United employees outside Chicago and San Francisco also will be able= =20 to get help via the job search and placement services of Adecco's more than= =20 5,800 offices in 63 countries. "Our goal is to be supportive and to provide= =20 valuable resources to United employees who have been affected by work-force= =20 reductions or who have retired since September 2001," said Sara Fields,=20 United senior vice president. The world's second-largest airline, which is= =20 now in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, has cut more than 20,000=20 jobs in the last year and a half and currently has about 72,500 active=20 employees. The company reiterated at a creditors meeting in Chicago on=20 Wednesday that it plans more layoffs if war breaks out with Iraq.
