Delta expands jet service to two Mississippi airports JACKSON, Miss. (AP) =97 Delta regional affiliate Delta Connection announced= =20 Thursday that beginning May 4 it will offer expanded nonstop regional jet=20 service between Atlanta and both Meridian and the Golden Triangle Regional= =20 Airport serving Columbus, Starkville and West Point. The new flights, to be= =20 operated by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA),=20 will replace service currently flown with 30-passenger turboprop aircraft.= =20 At Golden Triangle, Delta Connection will add one daily round-trip regional= =20 jet flight to Atlanta, bringing to three the number of daily nonstop jet=20 departures from that airport. At Meridian, it will offer the community's=20 first regional jet service with three daily round-trip flights to Atlanta.= =20 The new schedule will increase the number of seats available each way=20 between Meridian and Atlanta by 25 percent. Service between Meridian and=20 Dallas/Ft. Worth will be discontinued with the suspension of existing=20 turboprop flights. ASA will continue to operate one daily round-trip=20 turboprop flight between the Golden Triangle airport and Dallas/Ft. Worth,= =20 with an intermediate stop in Alexandria, La. "For a long time, I have been encouraging our nation's carriers to expand=20 service in Mississippi, particularly jet service at our regional airports,"= =20 said Sen.
