BWIA flies to Costa Rica Guardian 02.22.03 BWIA will make an inaugural direct scheduled flight to Costa Rica on April 10, the country's envoy to T&T Carlos Isidro Echeverria said yesterday. The Ambassador was speaking at a presentation on Costa Rica as a destination to travel agents at the Crowne Plaza. The inaugural flight to Costa Rica is one of three Spanish speaking destinations that BWIA hopes to start flying to this year. The other destinations are the Dominican Republic and Cuba. The flights are part of government's plan to deepen ties with hemispheric nations as T&T has been proposed as the site of the headquarters of the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas. Echeverria said he saw the need for Caricom and Central America to come closer together when he took up his post here in April 1999. He underscored the fact that direct air links can foster all kinds of relationships, including trade and cultural ties, between countries. Importantly, he said more commerce and trade between the two countries will lead to more revenue and profits for businessmen in both nations. A team from T&T, including Tidco president Brian Harry and Ambassador Plenipotentiary, Jerry Narace visited Costa Rica earlier this month to finalise details of the scheduled flights. Speaking at the function, Foreign Minister Knowlson Gift, said the establishment of air links between the two countries "marked a milestone in the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica." He praised Echeverria for doing a "tremendous job" in bringing the countries closer together and said Costa Rica had promised to provide training to nationals in language skills and diplomacy. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@escape.ca Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.trotters.net TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
