) said on Thursday it imposed a $10 each-way fuel surcharge on all of
its published discount airfares.
The No. 4 U.S. airline said the increase applied to discounted business
fares and all leisure fares, domestic and international. The carrier
said the surcharge would not apply to full coach, business class and
first-class walk-up fares or to domestic three-day advance purchase
fares.
Last week, other major U.S. airlines failed to push through an airfare
increase to cover rising fuel costs after Northwest opted not to match
the higher fares on all of its routes.
But several airlines matched a smaller $3 fuel surcharge imposed earlier
this week by low-cost carrier ATA Holdings Corp. (ATAH
