A revenue passenger mile is one paying passenger flown one mile. Load factor, or percentage of seats filled, was 82.2 percent for the month, up from 76.7 percent a year earlier, the Kew Gardens, N.Y.-based discount carrier said. Last week, JetBlue reported a 37 percent rise in fourth-quarter profit, topping Wall Street estimates. It also reported a 96 percent surge in revenue in the face of a downturn in the airline industry. The nation's airlines have have lost billions of dollars over the last t= wo years because of the economic slowdown, a falloff in business travel and security costs after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
