An Air Canada flight on its way to Toronto was forced to land in Winnipeg
on Sunday afternoon after officials reported smoke in the cockpit. The
pilot of Air Canada Flight 6081, originating from Saskatoon and heading for
Toronto, requested to touch down at Winnipeg International Airport at about
2:40 p.m. local time. Staff had detected a small amount of smoke in an
isolated portion of the cockpit inside the Boeing 737, said Air Canada
spokesman John Reber. "The pilots observed some intermittent haze from
behind one of the panels in the cockpit area," he said. Air Canada
organized alternate flights, and by Sunday night all passengers had made it
to Toronto. The aircraft remained in Winnipeg
