Bwia lay-offs...Flight attendants=92 jobs safe...airline needs more By Marisa Camejo, Trinidad Express The jobs of BWIA flight attendants are safe, according to the airline=92s=20 communications director, Clint Williams. =93If anything we need to hire more flight attendants as we plan to= introduce=20 new routes to Cuba, Santo Domingo and Costa Rica. And, the flight=20 attendants all know that=97I=92m not sure why they would be concerned,=94 he= told=20 the Sunday Express yesterday. Williams also described as =93mauvais lange= and=20 gossip=94 reports that, since Tuesday=92s retrenchment of 617 workers, two= BWIA=20 aircraft have been=94bounced=94, there has been an increase in the incidence= of=20 luggage being loaded onto the incorrect flights, and =93pins=94 are being= left=20 in the plane=92s gear wheels hindering them from folding inside the aircraft= =20 upon take-off. =93I strongly advise everyone not to give into our social bad= =20 habits of mauvais lange and gossip=94 said Williams. He explained that=20 ServisAir was now providing luggage, ramp and =93heavy checks=94 services= for BWIA. =93ServisAir is a professional company which handles 73 airports worldwide.= =20 They have employed Trinidadians, trained them, and, in some cases,=20 up-trained them. There have been no significant delays on flights=97we=92re= =20 still at 80 per cent on-time performance, which is very consistent. I think= =20 it=92s also important for the public to know that refuelling and oil changes= =20 are still handled by BWIA line service personnel,=94 Williams said, He also= =20 denied there being any trend which showed a decline in bookings since=20 Tuesday=92s lay-offs. =93People are certainly not pulling away from the=20 airline=94, he declared. BWIA began yesterday what Williams referred to as= =20 =93an aggressive marketing campaign. It=92s the first wave of what we hope= will=20 be a successful venture for us. What=92s important for BWIA now is to lower= =20 operating costs and make the airline more competitive *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) escape email mailto:ejames@escape.ca Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.caribscape.com/tamnakthai/ TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
