RPT-United pilots charge airline with seeking break-up = = = = Wednesday January 29, 5:04 PM EST = CHICAGO, Jan 29 (Reuters) - The union representing pilots at bankrupt UAL= Corp.'s (UAL) United Airlines on Wednesday accused the No. 2 U.S. carrie= r of seeking to break up the airline and sell off routes, aircraft and ot= her assets to an unidentified company. United is expected to disclose details of its restructuring plan -- inclu= ding specifics on the launch of a new low-cost carrier -- to its unions a= nd creditors this week. Chief Executive Glenn Tilton has been criticized by employee groups for n= ot offering more details about how the airline plans to emerge from bankr= uptcy as a strong competitor. The pilots said they have been locked out o= f the negotiating process. "They appear to be proposing a plan to break up United Airlines by giving= United routes, aircraft, and other assets to another company -- with a w= hole set of new managers and employees. If so, United's management is now= telling us to give up on United Airlines as we know it," Captain Paul Wh= iteford, Chairman of United's branch of the Air Line Pilots Association, = said in a statement. A UAL spokesman was not immediately able to comment on the statement by t= he pilots, who have taken a temporary 29 percent pay cut to help save Uni= ted millions of dollars in labor expenses as the airline works on a long-= term recovery strategy.
