Boeing's deliveries lowest in 5 years, but meets lowered goal CHICAGO (AP) =97 Boeing (BA) said Monday it delivered 381 commercial=20 airplanes in 2002 =97 the fewest in five years but on target with its= lowered=20 estimate in the depressed aviation industry. The company said it delivered= =20 86 planes in the fourth quarter to finish the year with one more delivery=20 than its latest announced objective of 380. The year's total was down 28%= =20 from 527 deliveries in 2001, when the full impact of the Sept. 11 attacks=20 wasn't yet evident. With airlines mired in their worst-ever slump=20 throughout 2002, it was the fewest since 1997 when Boeing delivered 375=20 jets. Boeing has said it expects 2003 deliveries to fall to between 275=20 and 285 =97 a decline likely to hand its title as world's largest commercial= =20 jet manufacturer to rival Airbus. Airbus also appears to have eclipsed=20 Boeing in the 2002 orders race, booking deals for more than 300 new=20 aircraft compared to 221 for Boeing through Dec. 17. Boeing plans to=20 announce later Monday its full-year orders totals for 2002, which will is=20 likely to be its worst showing since 1994, when it tallied orders for 125=20 aircraft. Nearly 60% of the commercial airplanes it delivered in 2002, or= =20 a total of 223, were of its single-aisle 737. Boeing also delivered 47 of=20 its twin-aisle 777s, and 35 767s, 29 757s, 27 747s and 20 717s.
