Air Canada cuts affect three eastern communities Last Updated Sat, 04 Jan 2003 12:31:05 CBC News HALIFAX - With the expiry of its three-year service commitment, Air Canada has cut flights in three communities in Atlantic Canada. As of Saturday, the company stopped flying in and out of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; St. Leonard, New Brunswick; and Stephenville, Newfoundland. The airport at Yarmouth, however, is getting a new set of wings. A smaller airline from Ontario, Air Nova, will soon be providing flights. At the time of its merger with Canadian Airlines in January 2000, Air Canada was obliged to continue service on all routes for a three-year period. With rising fuel prices and skyrocketing insurance fees, airline analyst Rick Erickson said he can understand Air Canada's plight. And with the current economic climate, the cuts will continue, he said. This Wednesday, it will be last call for more Air Canada flights in Newfoundland and Labrador. Service will end between Goose Bay and St.John's, Goose Bay and Deer Lake, Deer Lake and St. John's, and Deer Lake-Wabush. *************************************************** The owner of Roger's Trinbago Site/TnTisland.com Roj (Roger James) : escape email mailto:ejames@escape.ca Trinbago site: www.tntisland.com Carib Brass Ctn site www.tntisland.com/caribbeanbrassconnection/ Steel Expressions www.mts.net/~ejames/se/ Site of the Week: http://www.hilofoodstores.com TnT Webdirectory: http://search.co.tt *********************************************************
