American pulls out of Boise after just eight months BOISE, Idaho (AP) =97 American Eagle Airlines will no longer offer flights= =20 from the state capital. Just eight months after coming to town, the=20 regional affiliate of American Airlines will be shutting down its Boise=20 operations and laying off its 11 local employees. The airline blamed a lack of passengers on its two daily round-trip flights= =20 between Boise and Dallas and the airline industry's poor financial standing= =20 for the closure. "Unfortunately, we've not been able to get a satisfactory= =20 revenue stream out of the Boise market," company spokesman Gus Whitcomb=20 said. "The Airline industry is having a very difficult time making money=20 right now and is having to move its planes to more lucrative markets." John= =20 Anderson, manager of Boise Airport said the airline did not give the new=20 route much of a chance to become profitable. It started business here May=20 15, with the two Dallas flights. "That's really short timing," Anderson=20 said. "One would have to think there's more behind this decision besides=20 the lack of Boise traffic." Whitcomb said only 54.6% of the seats on its two daily round trip flights=20 to Dallas were occupied in November. Those flights were made with 70-seat=20 regional jets. The airline's final day of business in Boise will be Jan.=20 31. Whitcomb said local American Eagle employees will be given an=20 opportunity to transfer to other American Eagle cities where there are job= =20 vacancies. Otherwise, they will be given a severance package and laid off=20 at the end of January. Anderson said the last time Boise Airport lost an=20 airline was in the early 1990s when America West discontinued its Boise=20 service. America West has since returned to Boise, he said. Despite the bad= =20 news, Anderson said he still thinks the Dallas to Boise connection is=20 viable. And he said Delta Airlines has expressed interest in starting its=20 own connection between the two cities using larger passenger jets. American= =20 Eagle customers who have tickets out of Boise after Jan. 31, should call=20 the airline or a travel agent about finding substitute flights, Whitcomb= said.
