Caribbean Sun gets green light T'dad Express 12.22.02 CARIBBEAN Sun Airlines Inc has received its certification as a scheduled United States (US) flag air carrier by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and will begin service from the US to the Caribbean in January 2003. In an announcement out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the sister airline of regional carrier Caribbean Star said the initial service would originate in San Juan, Puerto Rico and expand to include mainland US locations later next year. Chairman and sole shareholder of the airline, R Allen Stanford, said the development represents "an important day for the many people who have worked hard to make this airline a reality". Company President YoIanda Suarez said: "We intend to build this airline into the carrier of choice for travel to the Caribbean." Caribbean Sun's initial fleet will consist of DeHavilland Dash 8s. The airline will provide regular flights from San Juan to St Maarten, St. Kitts, Tortola and Antigua.
