Midway to resume flying by Jan. 1 RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) =97 Midway Airlines will be back in the air Jan. 1. as a= =20 feeder airline for US Airways Express, under an agreement reached in=20 federal bankruptcy court Thursday. The Morrisville, N.C.-based carrier,=20 which has been grounded since July 17, will resume operations with flights= =20 from Raleigh-Durham International airport to Reagan National Airport in=20 Washington, D.C. Midway plans to have up to 18 jets in the air under the=20 banner of US Airways Express by the end of the second quarter of 2003.=20 Bankrupt US Airways will sell tickets on flights operated by Midway and=20 will provide reservation, ground support and other services for the=20 regional jet service. US Airways will pay Midway for two years of service=20 up front, then begin monthly payments for the remainder of the 10-year=20 service agreement. Details of US Airways' payments to Midway were deleted=20 from the bankruptcy filings. Midway, which filed for bankruptcy, signed on= =20 with US Airways in July as its last chance for survival and subsequently=20 suspended flight operations. At that time, Midway laid off most of its=20 remaining staff, which was down to several hundred from 2,500 last summer.= =20 In July, officials said some pilots, flight attendants and mechanics would= =20 be called back to work when the airline resumes flights.
