Rock-bottom airfares could be on the way up Airfares have dropped to their lowest levels in more than 20 years during this holiday season, but that's not likely to last. By the time the busy summer travel season rolls around, airfares are likely to begin climbing as the financially struggling airline industry looks to squeeze more money from passengers, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In addition, American and Delta have begun experiments designed to lower the price of last-minute, business-oriented fares. But if that movement takes hold across the industry, analysts say it will likely push up the average price of leisure tickets.
