US Airways CEO: Management must 'share pain' of wage cuts

After asking its employees for millions in wage concessions, US Airways'
management must also submit to pay cuts if the carrier is to stay in
business, CEO David Siegel said. "American workers cannot continue to
voluntarily suffer in order to prop up failing executives," he said "Those
executives need to share the pain at US Airways, if this airline is going
to survive. Only time will tell if management is ready to make the same
sacrifices it is asking from its workers to save the airline." The carrier
announced earlier this week that it would seek ways to further trim costs
as it hopes to emerge from bankruptcy protection in the first quarter of
next year. US Airways is also proposing to cut an additional 2,500 jobs.
That prompted the president of the airline's flight attendants union to
suggest management cut their own pay before asking other workers for more
concessions. Airwise News
