Westjet completes financing for 15 new Boeings Canadian discount airline WestJet said today it had completed financing worth $478 million to buy 15 Boeing 737-700 jets, according to Reuters. WestJet, which has reported 22 consecutive quarters of profitability despite tough times for airlines, said the deal was the first part of a process to buy 30 new airplanes that will double its current fleet of 34 aircraft. WestJet said it received the first aircraft Oct. 18 and will receive 14 more by the end of 2003. It said it is committed to buying 15 more Boeing 737-700s prior to Feb. 2006. WestJet is based in Calgary and is a smaller rival to Canada's dominant carrier, Air Canada.
