BWIA to let go 40 pilots Trinidad Guardian Forty BWIA pilots could lose their jobs if the company goes ahead with plans to get rid of three Dash 8 aircraft. Some of the pilots now facing retrenchment reportedly feel they may be able to reach an agreement with the company to keep the Dash 8s. They will also be talking to their representative body, Talpa on the issue later this week. CEO Conrad Aleong said yesterday the Dash 8 and L1011 fleets were not crucial to the airline and that is why they are being targeted. He was speaking at a ceremony organised by BWIA at the atrium of the Piarco Airport to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the US. Aleong said idling aircraft is one of the options the airline is looking at to cut costs in the wake of a weak travel industry. The company is also considering wage cuts. Aleong also said one flight out of New York was cancelled yesterday because of poor bookings. "All of the other flights were very full out of New York and out of Miami and out of the UK," he said. "It's just going north. Not a lot of people want to go north."
