CHICAGO, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Unionized flight attendants for United
Airlines, a unit of UAL Corp. (UAL

), said on Friday they would not agree to any wage cuts under current
circumstances, throwing another kink in the airline's bid to slash labor
costs and prevent a bankruptcy.
United, the second-largest U.S. airline, has asked its workers to agree
to $9 billion in cost cuts over six years.
But the airline's flight attendants joined with its machinists and
pilots to say the proposal was unacceptable.
"United management wants its employees to invest $9 billion of our
hard-earned money in an airline with no plan and no leader," said Greg
Davidowitch, a representative for United workers who belong to the
Association of Flight Attendants.

"United hasn't turned a profit in 2 years and management's solution is
to point a finger at the employees who keep the airline in the air," he
said. Union representatives will still meet with the airline, but no
concessions talks will occur under current conditions, Davidowitch said.
Pilots said the magnitude of United's wage cut request was
mind-boggling, while machinists have refused to discuss anything until a
new chief executive is named to replace Jack Creighton, UAL's interim
