They will more than likely have ALL of their airman certificates they
possess (if they have others..many pilots do) revoked permantly; not just
their Airline Transport Pilot certificates.  Unless they go through the
process mentioned before on the list concerning they admit they have a
problem (to the airline), then they might just have their certificates
suspended for a period of time.  (depending on HP's drug and alcohol abuse
policy).  Basically though, their career is over from the information I am
gathering.  The certificate revocation would probably be the stiff penalty
you mention.

Side note:  Also, when an airman goes to the aviation medical examiner for
his/her first or second class medical certificate every six months or 12
months, he/she must report any convictions...and the medical examiner does
looks at that section and as does the office in Oklahoma City.

Also...not Air West, but America West...:)....(just giving you a difficult
time since I see you had it correct in the subject line)
