In general a digital camera shouldn't have too much difficulty.  The
biggest thing I would be worried about is magnetic media (like a floppy
which some Sony digital cameras use, as well as computer floppy, Zip,
and hard disks) being exposed to a magnetic field.  With a checked item
you never know where it goes, at least in a carry on you have some
control.  That said, I have travelled around a bit with my laptop and it
hasn't had any problems yet.

Potentially there could be problems with the circuitry getting damaged
as well.  In general, any sort of expensive equipment (digital and film
cameras, laptops, etc) I suggest bringing in your carry ons.
