After a long meeting here, about 90 percent of the members of Impact, the union that represents the Aer Lingus pilots, approved the settlement plan offered by Ireland's Labor Relations Commission, officials said. On Sunday, the airline said it would accept the plan, and the Irish Airline Pilots Association, which is affiliated with the union, recommended that the fliers do the same. A one-day strike by pilots Thursday over changes to their working hours escalated, and before the vote Aer Lingus had canceled all flights until at least Tuesday. The airline is losing 2 million euros ($1.9 million) each day the fleet is grounded, and more than 100,000 travelers have been stranded. The trade union Siptu, representing ground staff, had warned that the dispute could destroy the airline, and tourism and business executives have issued dire warnings for Ireland's economy. Pilots have been taken off the payroll until the dispute is resolved. The airline is expected to lose at least 130 million euro this year ($120 million) after approximately 90 million euro ($80 million) loss last year. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/business/AP-Ireland-Airline-Strike.html?ex=1024157258&ei=1&en=9552924aa12e2813 HOW TO ADVERTISE --------------------------------- For information on advertising in e-mail newsletters or other creative advertising opportunities with The New York Times on the Web, please contact onlinesales@nytimes.com or visit our online media kit at http://www.nytimes.com/adinfo For general information about NYTimes.com, write to help@nytimes.com.
