Air Canada Receives Top Honours in International Survey of Air Travellers:
Best Airline in North America and Best Frequent Flyer Program
MONTREAL, May 15 /CNW/ - In an annual survey of the world's most frequent
air travellers, Air Canada has been voted the Best Airline in North America.
As well, Aeroplan, Air Canada's frequent flyer program, won the distinction of
being the world's Best Frequent Flyer Program. Recipients of the prestigious
"OAG" ("Official Airline Guide") "Airline of the Year Awards" were announced
at a gala ceremony in London yesterday evening with HRH The Duke of York as
guest of honour.
"We are honored to be recognized by air travellers around the world as
the best airline in North America and Aeroplan as the best frequent flyer
program in the world," said Robert Milton, President and Chief Executive
Officer. "These awards recognize the efforts of Air Canada and its employees
in providing leading, world-class service and are particularly gratifying in
light of current challenges within the industry. They also serve to remind us
that we have the opportunity to earn our customers' loyalty and repeat
business with every flight. It is doubly gratifying that Aeroplan has been
recognized the world over for excellence in rewarding customer loyalty."
In addition, Air Canada was shortlisted for excellence in several
categories: Best Trans-Atlantic Airline, Best Economy/Coach Class and Best
Airline Web Site. Runners-up for the title "Best Airline Based in North
America" were American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Midwest Express
Airlines and United Airlines. Runners-up for the title "Best Frequent Flyer
Program" were Continental Airlines, Qantas Airways, Scandinavian Airlines
System and United Airlines.
The OAG awards are voted by frequent flyer business travellers from
around the world and organized by travel information publisher OAG. Results
are independently verified by market information company, Taylor Nelson
Sofres. Since its inception 20 years ago, the OAG awards have become coveted
industry honours. The profile of the voters represents the very essence of
frequent global travel.
