Boeing set to offer in-flight Internet access WASHINGTON (Reuters) =97 U.S. aviation regulators have certified Boeing's=20 plan to link commercial airline passengers with the Internet during flight,= =20 the company said Tuesday. Already available on some private and government= =20 aircraft, Connexion by Boeing uses high-speed technology to connect air=20 travelers to the Web, their e-mail and other text and video services. Although American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta =97 the three largest= =20 U.S. airlines =97 all backed out of partnerships with Connexion last fall,= =20 they are among 17 carriers who continue to help Boeing with planning and=20 development. German carrier Lufthansa plans to test the Connexion system=20 later this year. It was installed last month on a 747 jet. The market for=20 airborne Internet service is developing slowly and Boeing expects to price= =20 Connexion by flight. Boeing's main competitor for in-flight Internet=20 service is Seattle-based Tenzing Communications. Tenzing says it is testing= =20 systems with Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific and Brazil's Varig and is talking=20 with two or three other carriers.
