Mike Terrett, president of the civil aerospace division at Rolls-Royce, said the Hong Kong-based airline was quick to order the Trent 700, the first engine in the series, when it was launched in 1995. "Cathay Pacific's commitment to the Trent engine family is underlined through this (latest) order," he said. The A330s will be powered by 72,000-pound thrust Trent 700 engines while the Boeing 777s will be equipped with Trent 800s, which have a take-off thrust of 84,000 pounds. Both types of wide-bodied twinjet will be used on Cathay Pacific's regional routes across the Asia-Pacific region. Rolls-Royce builds engines for all types of commercial aircraft. It has customers in some 150 countries, including more than 500 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility operators and 160 armed forces. Cathay Pacific already operates 24 Boeing 747-400s powered by Rolls-Royce engines. =20 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2002 AP
