Calgary firm cashes in on tighter airport security Last Updated Tue Jan 8 12:56:13 2002 CALGARY - A Calgary company has come up with a way to deal with all the=20 electronic products that are being rejected at airport security points.=20 With airport security tightening up in light of the terrorist attacks of=20 Sept. 11, passengers have had to prove that their electronic products work.= =20 If not, they have to give them up at the airport or not fly at all. At the= =20 Calgary International Airport, the lost and found office has been seeing a= =20 steady stream of cell phones, hand held computers, laptops, cameras, and=20 compact disc players =97 all confiscated by airport security. People=20 travelling to the United States are forbidden to go back through American=20 customs and pack the item in their luggage. To deal with the growing pile= =20 of electronics, Chris Richardson created Wingtips Incorporated. He's opened= =20 a booth between U.S. customs and security. People with items that can't go on a flight can store them with Wingtips.=20 Or, travellers can pay to have Wingtips courier the property to=20 them. "They're at their wits end. They can't go back to give it to a=20 friend who may have seen them off. They can't go back and buy an envelope=20 to send it home," says Richardson. "They're stuck with either disposing it= =20 or not travelling." Richardson won't say if he plans to expand his idea to= =20 other airports, but he says if it turns out to be popular, the concept=20 could work easily elsewhere.
