Is your web browser set up to use a proxy ?
That might be why it can get to various mirros, but yum cant.
Yes, the browser is set to use a proxy. Even the environment variable
http_proxy uses the same proxy setting as the browser.
try a wget directly like:
wget
http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/Fedora/updates/10/i386/repodata/primary.sqlite.bz2
as an example.
The wget worked perfectly fine. It downloaded the bz2 package at
fairly nice speed.
run
urlgrabber \
http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/Fedora/updates/10/i386/repodata/primary.sqlite.bz2
as root.
