mysqld breaks yum, help?

Greetings. After doing:

$ yum install mysql-server
$ /etc/init.d/mysqld start

Yum is broken. Example:

$ yum list php
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading "priorities" plugin
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * utterramblings: www.jasonlitka.com
 * base: mirror.nuvio.com
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/yum", line 29, in ?
    yummain.main(sys.argv[1:])
[..snip..]
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/threading.py", line 416, in start
    _start_new_thread(self.__bootstrap, ())
thread.error: can't start new thread

I have the priorities plug-in setup. I did `yum update` before messing around with 3rd party repositories. The only modules I installed from the 3rd party sties are PHP related.

More importantly, if I do `/etc/init.d/mysqld stop`, yum works fine.

So it's only failing when mysqld is turned on. (?!)

Can someone offer some insight here? Thank you for your time.

$ cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.2 (Final)
