There are aspects where parallel operation _may_ help - but keep in mind - parallel installation is pretty much a non-starter when it comes to the actual transaction. When it comes to caching in yum, if there are places you've had specific issues i'd encourage you to check out 3.2.12 or the soon-coming out 3.2.13 to see if some of those issues have been resolved, first.
