I'm sorry Pete, I misunderstood your question. For some reason I though you had your own repository server (not RedHat's) and you were trying to use one of your RHEL clients to download packages from your own server. I meant to run createrepo on the server, not on the client. My apologies...

Hi John
Im not familiar w createrepo, so i may have done this incorrectly. I d/l'd the createrepo app from duke and ran
createrepo -v /etc/yum.repo.d/
files were generated, but that didnt seem to make a difference when i reran yum update

I did examine the output'd primary.xml.gz file and it didnt appear to have much information. I haven't successfully ran yum yet, so its likely that my local repository doesnt even exist yet.

Does this make any sense?

thanks
pete

i.e. createrepo -v /path/to/your/repodata/primary.xml.gz/

  Hi
I'm trying to do a package update using yum for my RHEL5 system (still have an active subscription). In a nutshell, the program hangs indefinitely when it attempts to download primary.xml.gz. I've tried disabling my firewalls to no avail. I can ftp to the repository at ftp.redhat.com. Has anyone encountered this issue? I've copied the output below and included my .repo info:

[root@nietzsche huskeypm]# yum install kernel-devel xorg-x11-server-sdk pkgconf
