I imagined that it would be like a DNS serial number, which is incremented,
on the master zone only, for each change to the master repository.  The
mirrors could also use it to tell if an rsync is necessary.  Even could
write the serial number to a file in the repository to make it part of the
rsync.

So, a zone for extras, a zone for core...?
